The graph above illustrate the numbers of inquiries of a city received by the Tourist Information Office from over a half year in 2011.
Overall, the data shows an upward trend regarding the usage of in-person and by telephone inquiries yet a downward trend for letter/email inquiries by the months, with the physical meetings peaking in June with nearly 2000 in person visits, and calls being second in the lead. While the email inquiries are becoming increasingly rare, having not even reached 500 in June.
This effect is most likely caused by the complications of letter-sending in a country foreign to visitors, having different customs and rules, because of that, tourist are more likely to flock towards physical meetings. Not only do in-person inquiries gives them the ability to also explore the city they’re visiting more freely, but face-to-face meetings can decrease misunderstandings between the foreigners and city guides due to language barriers, with the supply of translators in The Tourist Information Office.
