Overall, there was an increase in the number of people playing tennis, badminton and basketball. While the figure for rugby saw a drop. It was the most popular in the first year but it then was surpassed by tennis.
In 1985, the number of individuals taking part in rugby stood at just over 250, after which it declined significantly to exactly 200 in 1990, kept seeing a downward trend and from 200 to 150 hitting the lowest point 50 in 2005. In contrast, the figure for tennis grew from 150 in 1985 to 155 in 1990, it then rose slightly and overtook rugby in 1995. In the final year, tennis became more popular than other kinds of sports.
The figures for basketball and badminton started at approximately 98 and 60 respectively. There was a similar trend, with a decline to 80 and 48 in 1990. In the half of the period, both basketball and badminton rose and remained this level, with numbers of 98 and 50.
