The line graph illustrates the number of people who participated in four different sports — badminton, basketball, tennis, and rugby — in a particular region over a 20-year period from 1985 to 2005.Overall, rugby was the most popular sport at the beginning of the period, but its participation significantly decreased and became the least popular by the end. In contrast, tennis experienced steady growth and eventually became the most widely played sport. Basketball and badminton saw relatively little change over time and remained less popular than tennis.
In 1985, rugby had the highest number of participants, with around 250 people taking part. However, this figure steadily declined to approximately 220 in 1990, then dropped further to 200 in 1995. By 2000, the number had decreased to about 150, and by 2005, rugby had the lowest participation, falling sharply to just 50 participants.
Tennis, on the other hand, started with around 150 people in 1985 and steadily increased throughout the period. By 1990, it had reached about 175, followed by 200 in 1995. The upward trend continued to 220 in 2000 and finished at just under 230 participants in 2005, making it the most popular sport by the end.
Basketball began at approximately 85 participants in 1985 and showed minor fluctuations, decreasing slightly in 1990, then increasing again to just over 90 by 2000. It remained relatively stable and finished at the same level by 2005. Badminton had the lowest participation in 1985, with around 60 people, and although it dropped slightly to 40 in 1990, it gradually returned to its original level by 2005.
