The line graph given below provides information regarding the numbers of shops that closed and the number of new shops that opened in one country from 2011 to 2018.
Overall it can be seen that both number of closures and opens decline over the period. However, closures fell significant in 2014.
A more detailed look reveals that the number of closures fluctuated slightly from 2011 and 2014 at approximately 6500 closed shops. By contrast, the number of openings fell sharply, halving from 8,500 in 2011 to around 4,000 in 2012 and rose significantly from 2012 to 2014 at approximately 6,000 openings.
Turning to the other period, the number of closures fell dramatically from 6,500 in 2014 to at nearly 800 in 2015 and rose sharply in 2016 at approximately 5,000. The figure for closures fluctuated until the end of the period. Openings experienced noticeable downward trend over the years to around 3,500 in 2018.
