Overall, it is evident that the usage of whole milk decreased steadily over the given years. Interestingly, the figure for low-fat milk experienced a notable growth.
In 1970, the whole milk was a more popular choice than low-fat milk among American citizens, with 25 and around 6 gallons, respectively. While the consumption of low-fat milk increased to 10 gallons in 1980, before its peak of 14 gallons in 1990, the share of while milk witnessed a consistent decline, falling from 20 in 1980 to below 15 gallons in 1990.
Then, from 2000 to 2015, the percentage of whole milk intake dropped continuously, initially to 10, then about 7 gallons, till finally reaching 5 gallons in the final give year. In contrast, the proportion of low-fat milk levelled off at under 15 gallons between 1990 and 2010. After that, it witnessed a slight decline to around 14 gallons in 2015.
