The line graph compares the proportion of 18-25 years old universities in four different different countries – Singapore Malaysia Philippines and Tailand.
Overall , the percentage of university students aged 18-25 increased in all four countries, but the increase was particularly dramatic in Thailand by the end of the period.
At the beginning of the period, the Thailand had the highest portion at about 25% followed by singapore at 15%. In contrast, the Philippines and Malaysia had much lower percentages at around 7% and 2%. By 1971, Thailand rose sharply to 30% whereas Singapore had fallen slightly to about 21%. On the other hand the Philippines and Malaysia increased gradually to around 7% and 10%. In 1981, Thailand declined to 25%, Singapore climbed modestly to 22%, while the Philippines and Malaysia continued to rise to approximately 9% and 12%.
From 1991 to 2011 the figures generally increased. Thailand climbed to 36% in 1991 and then dipped slightly to 34% in 2001, and then rose significantly to around 40% by 2011. Similarly Singapore increased from 20% in 1991 to about 30% in 2001 .The Philippines also experienced steady growth rising from 15% to nearly 19% over the same period. By contrast Malaysia remained stable at around 15% between 1991 and 2001 before increasing modestly to about 15-16% at the end of the period.
