The table compares free time allocation of adults living in urban and rural areas in 1990 and 2010.
Overall, photography and reading gained more preference in both urban and rural areas. Animated play remained the same in urban but reduced in popularity with rural adults, completely contrasting with the patterns for playing. Moreover, reading was the most common leisure activity throughout.
In more detail, regarding reading, in 1990, the percentages of rural grownups were 10% higher than that of urban areas and was the highest rate in the table, recorded at 71%. 20 years later, its percentages saw an increase to different extent but ended up reaching a parity at 78%, becoming the majority of all.
Turning to photography, in 1990, 14% of rural adults took up photography during spare time, doubling the figures for the urban one. In 2010, both percentages surged, around 2 times higher than the previous.
In respect of animated play. The proportions of urban grownups stayed unchanged, a tenth of the adults. Meanwhile, this activity became noticeably less attractive to adults living in the countryside,with a 4% decline. By contrast, the figures for people living in the city spending time on playing dropped from 21% to 17% while rural areas plateaued at 26%.
