The table shows the changes in the proportions of cell phone users who used different features of their phones in Vietnam from 2005 to 2010. Overall, the percentage of people using their phones to call, text, and record audio adhered to falling trends, with making calls being the most used feature throughout, while the reverse was true for those taking photos.
Calling and texting were the two most popular reasons as to why people used cell phones in the beginning of the study period, with respective figures of a whopping 100% and 82% users in 2005. Over the ensuing three years, the proportion of phone owners who used their devices to call others remained unchanged before dipping slightly to 97% in 2010, consistently exhibiting higher figures than the rest of the categories. However, the figure for sending and receiving text messages on a cell phone saw a noticeable decline during the study period, reaching 73% in 2008 and then dropping further to 68% at the end.
The remaining two purposes for which cell phones were used, on the other hand, showed reversal patterns. Taking pictures rose steadily in popularity throughout the period, from just 65% to 70% in 2008, a figure that was followed by another increase to 77% in 2010. By contrast, the percentage of people recording audio was 75% in 2008, down from 78% in 2005, after which it decreased even lower, closing the period at a chart low of 63%.
