The graph illustrates the proportion of national arts grants distributed to five different forms of arts, namely, Museums and Gallaries, Theatre and Dance, Music, Literature and Visual Arts, in the UK between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, the fundings in all five sectors reported fluctuations. Theatre and Dance forms along with Visual arts reported an increase in the funding, whereas Museums and Gallaries, Music and Literature recorded a decline.
Notably, Museums and Gallaries were allocated with the highest budget in the beginning at 35%, which showed a steady drop and reached to about 30% in 2010. Furthermore, it dropped down to almost 25% at the end of the period. Although, music sector initially rose marginally from 20% in 2000, it dropped after 2005 and reached to almost 17% in 2015 and eventually culminated to about 15%. Literature show a silimar trend.
In contrast, Theatre and Dance rose it’s funding from 25% in 2000 to about 30% in 2010, and reached slighlty lower than 35% at the end of the period. Similarly, despite of a constant state from 2000 to 2005, Visual arts grew it’s funding, and from approximately 5%, it increased to about 12% in 2010. After a steady incline until 2015, it significantly grew it’s funding to slightly above 15% in 2020.
