The bar graph illustrates the percentage of part-time workers in four European countries, namely France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain, for the years 1980 and 2010. The general trend shows a significant rise in part-time workers in France and the number of part-time workers only rose in numbers for each other country except Germany.
In 1980, Spain had the highest percentage of part-time workers, standing at approximately 45%, followed by Germany with around 35%. France and Portugal had relatively lower percentages, with France at approximately 20% and Portugal at about 15%. Moving to 2010, there was a noticeable increase in the percentage of part-time workers across all countries except Germany. France maintained the highest percentage, rising to around 85%, followed by Spain with an increase to about 65%. Portugal also saw substantial increases, rising to approximately 35%. However, in Germany, we saw a decline in freelancing of nearly 15 percent.
Overall, there was a clear upward trend in the prevalence of part-time work in all four countries except Germany over the 30-year period, with France consistently having the highest percentage of part-time workers followed by Spain and Portugal.
