The line graph illustrates the proportion of people who went to the cinema by age category to the cinema no more than one every month in a country from 1978 to 2008. Overall, the proportion of people by 14-24 and 25-34 group visiting to the cinema experienced downward trends, while the reverse was true for 35-49 and 50+ categories. Of particular note is 14-24, which was the highest throughout, despite decreasing.
Focusing on the higher figures first, the proportion of people who visited the cinema by 14-24 category started at around 90% in 1978, after it fluctuated between 1978 and 1998. After remaining unchanged in the following year, it saw a slight decline to just under 90% in 2008. Meanwhile, starting at 80% in 1978, there was a considerable fall in the percentage of 25-34 going to the cinema to 1993. After that, it recovered its original percentage in 1998, whilst remained stable in the next year, which was followed by an insignificant drop to approximately 76% in the final year.
By contrast, the figure for 35-49 stood at 60% in the initial year, then remained unchanged in 1983, followed an inconsiderable decrease to 70% in 1988. Before remaining stable at 70% between 1998 and 2008, it saw a significant increase to 70% in 1998. Similarly, the figure for old group was only 40% in 1978, after a noticeable decrease to 30% in 1988, it grew consistently, reaching almost 50% in the final year.
