The graph illustrates the evolution of commuting in the UK, as it compares the trend of means of transport in two specific years, which are 2001 and 2011. Despite eco-friendly ways of travelling, like buses, trains and cycling, rise of popularity in the latter year, the overall shift is not considered dramatic.
As one can concur from the graph, although there is a substantial 6% drop in driving preference, it remains the leading means of travel, while it is currently closely followed by the railway system. A rather significant portion of the population rides the bus to work, whereas more athletically demanding ways, like walking and cycling, amount for a very small percentage. Lastly, carpooling to work demonstrates disproportionately low rates , after taking in consideration that 30% of commuters take their car to work.
The safest conclusion would be that, in spite of the 10 year gap, UK workers have not indulged in noteworthy changes of commuting habits.
