The table illustartes the percentage of unemployed people in the labour force in nine countries over the period from 1994 to 2004. Overall, many countries experienced a decrease in unemployment over the time period. All countries, except Poland, Japan and Germany, saw a decrease. The unemployment rate in Ireland experienced the most significant decrease, while the unemployment rate in Poland rocketed sharply.
Ireland’s unemployment rate decreased from 14.8% to 4.4%, while Italy’s fell from 11.8% to 8.4%. Futhermore, both Canada and the UK percentages drecreased by nearly 3% in 2004. However, Poland had an unemployment rate of 11.8% of in 1994, and surged to 19% in 2004.
Regarding following countries, Germany and Japan saw a similar pattern. Germany’s unemployment rate rose from 7% in 1994 to 9% in 2004, and Japan’s saw a slight increase from 2.7% to 4.5%. The last countries, the USA and Australia, declined between 1994 and 2004.
