The line graph illustrates the proportion of workforce in five job categories in Australia over the 50 years, from 1962 to 2012.
Overall, the number of people working in the Service industry witnessed an upward trend while this figures for the Manufacturing and Agriculture industry took the opposite and those for Construction and Mining area remained unchanged. Besides, the Service sector was the leading position over the period while no one worked in Mining sector.
In 1962, more than a half of workforce took part in the Service industry and it gradually increased to nearly 80% in 2012, which was the highest proportion in Australian labor market. In contrast, a downward trend was seen in the Manufacturing field, starting at about 27% then fall significantly to 10% at the end of the period. Similarly, the Agriculture industry also dropped sharply from over 10% in 1962 to only 3% in 2012.
Regarding the two industries Construction and Mining, these figures for were quite stable over the time, at 10% and around 2% respectively. Especially, no one has ever worked in Mining sector in 1962 but it changed to 2% by the end of 2012, due to some minor fluctuation in the middle time.
