The bar chart illustrates the percentage of income of a Hollywood studio from three different movie genres – romance, comedies, and action/horror during a 30-year period. Overall, from 1970 to 2000, the revenue proportion of romantic movies dropped significantly, while the opposite trend was spotted in the figure of Action/horror movies.
First, the Hollywood studio gained the most from Romance movies, but then shifted to Action/ Horror at the end of the surveyed period. In 1970, Romantic movies’ revenue dominated the other film types with 50%. However, it witnessed a sharp decrease of over half of 20 years later, then ended up at nearly 10% to stand at the lowest position in 2000. On the other side, the Action/ Horror movies gradually became the most popular choice of audiences, as it started with a humble number of nearly 10% at the beginning of the period and grew steadily to reach its peak of approximately 47%.
Second, the figure for comedy sales rate went through a unique decreasing pattern, which fluctuated between 1970 and 2000. In detail, it accounted for the second-largest share of the studio’s revenue of over 30% and then slightly increased to 33% in 1970 and 1980, respectively. However, the box office revenue for comedies dropped to 30% and remained stable for the next 20 years.
