Aging is something seen in every human’s life. It is so common that graphs and data sets have been made to summarize them. Today I would like to talk about this graph, which shows the percentage of old people in a few specific countries between 1940 to 2040.
There are three countries, consisting of Japan, USA, and Sweden. Out of all of them, Japan has the most overage people by 2040, with almost 30% of their population older than 65 years old. Japan went from 5% in 1940, to around 30% in 2040, such a rise in numbers that may affect the population of Japan when the old population dies.
The second country with the second highest percentage of old people is Sweden in 2040. Around 25% of their population are above 65 years of age. During World War two, 6% of Swedish were over 65 years old, this really shows the concerning growth of the ratio between old people and juveniles.
Lastly, we have the USA, it went from only 10% in 1940 to almost 25% in 2040. This growth concerns many people as it can cause the lack of workers in their countries. In turn, it may cause the collapse of the economy. The percentages of old people stayed almost the same from around 1980 until 2020.
In summary, Japan’s aged population has grown by a lot from past years, along with Sweden and USA. Japan increased around 25% in old people while sweden and USA has increased by only about 20% and 15% respectively.
