The line graph illustrates the percentage of elderly citizens aged 65 and over in USA, Sweden and Japan from 1940 to 2040. Overall, all three nations experienced an upward trend in the proportion of elderly people in the past decades. In the future, the figure is expected to continue expanding until 2040 while the ratio of Japanese elders sharply grows from 2030.

In 1940, about 9 percent of American aged 65 and over compared to roughly 7 percent and 5 percent in Sweden and Japan respectively. From 1940 to 2000, the the elder in USA and Sweden gradually increased while it was relatively stable in Japan.

After the past period, the proportion of the elders in three developed countries is believed to incline untill 2040. However, there are a few changes in ranking. It is noticeable that the elder’s percentage in Japan will remarkably rise after 2020 then It will peak around 27 percent in 2040. As a result, Japan has the largest percentage of citizens aged 65 and over in 20240. In the same period, the ratios of USA and Sweden is hoped to progressively grow then they peak at 23 and 25 percent respectively. USA is reported to be the lowest percentage of older in the future.
