This line graph represents the percentages of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in Japan, Sweden, and The United States of America.
At the starting point of the graph, America reached the highest by almost 10% of the population in 1940. Later on, America reached a peak which is about 15% of the population in the country. By the end of the 20th Century, Sweden has slowly surpassed America with almost 15% of the people. Afterwards, Sweden continued to be the highest from around the late 90’s until it is predicted to be raced by Japan around 2030. Japan throughout the 20th century is always the smallest in the proportion below 5%, but starting from 2000 the graph started to rise. Japan’s elderly population is expected to significantly rise and reach its peak by 2040, above America and Sweden.
Overall, Based on the graph, America is the country with the highest elderly population before the 21st century. At the beginning of the 21st Century, Sweden stayed at the top of the graph before Japan’s elderly population rose significantly.
