The line chart illustrates the amount of goods transported in the United Kingdom between 1974 and 2002 using different modes of transport like road, water, rail and pipeline.
Overall, there was a steady increase in the quantity of goods shipped in the UK. Usage of roads to transfer goods was the highest as compared to other ways during 2002. The pipeline was considered to contribute the smallest proportion throughout the period.
In 1974, transportation through roads was nearly 70 million tonnes which gradually increased to around 95 in the year 2002 which was at the peak point. The railways were erratic throughout the period and there was not much difference till the end of the period.
The route to the water was around 38 million tonnes which surged significantly, but after 1982 there were ups and downs. The pipeline was the lowest during 1974, while after 1994 up to 2002 it was used at a constant pace.
