The bar chart compares three different fossil fuels in terms of their carbon emissions in the UK from 1990 to 2010, with figures expressed in million tons.
Overall, it is clear that the carbon emissions from coal and oil decreased over time, the figure for gas increased and became top carbon emitter by the end of the period.
Starting with gas, it emitted around 220 million tons of carbon, the lowest statistic, in 1990, however, the rate of carbon emitting then grew steadily to approximately 325 million tons by 2010, becoming the top emitter.
In contrast, carbon emission from oil accounted for roughly 270 million tons in 1990, before falling to nearly 200 million tons in 2010, despite a slight fluctuation in 2000. Similarly, coal emitted around more than 300 million tons at the beginning of the period, followed by a stable decline to nearly 190 million tons in 2010, becoming the lowest emitter, in spite of its initial dominance.
