The bar chart compares the amount of carbon emissions produced by three fossil fuels (gas, oil and coal) in the UK between 1990 and 2010. The figures are give in million tons.
Overall, gas emissions increased steadily over the period both oil and coal emissions decreased. At the beginning, coal was the largest source of carbon emissions, but by 2010 gas the highest.
In 1990, coal produced about 310 million tons of carbon emissions the highest figure. Oil was responsible for around 270 million tons, gas produce the lowest amount, at approximately 220 million tons.
Over the next 20 years, gas emissions rose continuously. They increased to about 270 million tons in 1995, reached 300 million tons in 2000, and finally climbed to around 320 million tons in 2010.
By contrast, coal emissions throughout the period. The figure dropped from 310 million tons in 1990 to 280 million tons in 1995 to 250 million tons in 2000. It continued to decline and reached only 190 million tons by 2010. Oil emissions also showed a downward trend overal although they increased slightly to about 260 million tons in 2000 to around 210 million tons at the end of the period.
