The line graph illustrates the percentages of unemployment that were shown in four countreis- the UK, the USA and Japan over the period between 1990 to 2004.
Overall, the percentages of unemployment’s pattern changed significantly during the period. While the figure declined in the UK and Japan, the USA experienced an fluctuating increase over the period of 14 years, though they showed some variations.
In 1990, the UK had the highest percentage of unemployment, accounting for approximately 4.2%. This figure dropped rapidly, reaching around 2.6% in 1992; however, the unemployment rate began to increase gradually until reaching to nearly 4.5% in 1998. Then, the unemployment rate fell substantially, before climbing slightly after 2000 and finally reached to about 3.6% in 2004. A similiar fluctuating trend can bee seen in Japan. Starting at only 2% in 1990, this rate remained stable for the next two years, and it peaked at 5% in 1996. Later it started to fall and decreased to almost 1.2% in 2004.
By contrast, the unemployment rate in the USA rose rapidly from nearly 2.3% to above 4.3% in1992, before growing to about 1.9% after 1994. After that, this figure increased gradually and peaked at 5.2% in 2004.
