The line graph shows the percentage of people in four different age groups in the USA who used Twitter between November 2010 and May 2013.
Overall, Twitter use increased in all four age groups during the period. People aged 18-29 had the highest percentage of users throughout, while those aged 65 and over had the lowest. The most noticeable change was seen among the youngest group, whose use of Twitter soared towards the end of the period.
In November 2010, around 14% of people aged 18-29 used Twitter. This figure rose to about 18% in 2011, although it then dipped slightly and remained flat for a short period. After that, the percentage soared and hit a peak of approximately 31% in August 2012. It then fell and reached about 26% before rising again to nearly 30% in May 2013.
Among people aged 30-49, Twitter use rose gradually overall. It started at around 7% and fluctuated during the following months. The figure then increased to about 14% before falling slightly. After that, it rose steadily and reached approximately 16% at the end of the period.
The two older groups showed lower figures. Twitter use among 50-64-year-olds started at around 6%, dipped slightly, and then rose gradually to about 12%. In contrast, the percentage for people aged 65 and over remained the lowest. It fell and then levelled off at around 2-3% before rising to approximately 5% in May 2013.
