The line graph depicts the air pollution caused in the UK due to industry, transport and household from 1900 to 2005. The units are measured in millions of tonnes.
Overall, the pollution from vehicles rose, while the pollution from others decreased. However, industries were the major source of pollution, and the total amount decreased from 1900 to 2005.
To begin with, the total declined steadily from just under 8 million tonnes to around 5 million tonnes over the observed time period. Meanwhile, industries being the major factor, started polluting from around 6 million tonnes in 1900, which later dropped steadily to approximately 2 million tonnes. Whereas the figures for households remained stable at around 1 million tonnes until 1999, after which it declined sharply to almost zero by the end of the period.
Regarding the pollutants for transport, the amounts increased slightly before reaching a trough in 1996 and remained constant for three years. Additionally, the number of pollutants increased significantly to around 3 million tonnes in 2005.
