In 1994, starting at 450 millions, CDs sales rose gradually to around 650 millions in 1998 and reached its peak at 800 millions copies in 2000. After that, in the period from 2000 to 2006, there was a rapid decrease by a half to 400 millions in its copies sales and troughed of 300 millions in 2006. Meanwhile, a plummet was recorded in the sales of cassettes, from 400 millions in 1994 to over 50 millions in 2000 and it slowly declined to zero in 2006.
On the other hand, beginning with zero for 6 years, the figures for sales of digital music experienced a slight increase to 30 millions copies in 2002. For the next 4 years, there was a surge of over 700 million copies have been sold, which made digital music the most popular format.
