The bar chart presents data about the drinking habits of habitants of the United States, devided per age.
Overall, the rate of heavy drinkers declines per age group. This means the youngest age group has the highest rate of ‘Heavy Drinkers’. In contrast, the oldest age group has the least amount of heavy drinkers. However, if you look at being drinker in general, they appear to be the highest.
From 16 to 24, a striking 60 per cent is considered being a heavy drinker. After a slight decrease to around 50% of the age group after, which is untill the age of 34, it rose back to the same level as the youngest group. From here, a steady reduction has set untill the the oldest mentioned age group of 65 to 74, where the heavy drinkers were about 40 percent.
Though, it is striking that this is the group which drinks the most with a total of approximetely 80 percent. This rate is in contrast with the heavy drinkers growing per age group, from just over 50 percent to the mentioned 80 percent, in between 25 to 74 years old respectively. Since the youngest group’s heavies drinkers are already above the ‘light drinkers’ rate, this percentage is just a bit higher than the age group after. The remaining percentages are from ex-drinkers and never drinkers. These are both fluctuating over the generations between percentages of 25 to 5 percent.
