The table compares the percentage of people who were asked 2 fields (external and internal) communication skills were essential in their jobs work in 1997 and 2006.
First, External section refers to communication incompany. The most important factor is dealing with people 60 percent in 1997, then rose by 5% after 9 years. Also, Advising or caring for customers or clients was the second important affect with 36 percent and rose 3% from 1997 to 2006. Between 1997 and 2006, Knowledge of particular products or services rose slightly by 6%. On the other hand, Selling a products or services fell of 3% from 1997 to 2006.
Secondly, the most important skill was refer to listening to colleagues with 38%, which that rose by 9% in 2006. Also, this figure of instructing or training people rose slightly by 5% at the end period. Other skills had same small similar rises, making speeches or presentations increase of 4%. Beside and the last skills was analysing problems together with other account for 20% in 1997 and then after 9 years, it had 26%.
Overall, almost all communication skills saw an upward trend over the nine-years period. On the other hand, Selling a product or service skills had a downward trend. It is clear that dealing with people and advising or caring for customers or clients are important communication skills for many workers in company, whereas, listening carefully to colleagues is a crucial skill for workers within company . Other skills are not essential for them.
