The pie charts show changes in the proportion of spending habits of people in the UK between 1971 and 2001. Overall, while at the beginning of the period, most people spend a lot of money for purchasing cars, at the end of the period food category dominated. Notably, food registered a major increase, attaining the first spot.
In 1971, most people preferred buying cars. This category stood at 43%, showing the highest figure on the chart. However, in 2001, it significantly dropped to 22%. The reverse trend was true for food section, it started the period at 14% and grew to 44%, after three decades. It should be also noted that a similar rising pattern was observed in petrol from 8% to 10%.
Meanwhile, remaining sections exhibited the lowest share. In 1971, less people preferred purchasing books, they stood at just 1% while in 2001 it increased to 6%. A small contrast was seen between computers and restaurants, with 12% and 14%, respectively. At the end of the period, the former dipped to 2% and the latter 7%. Remarkably, furniture grew to only one percentage (9%).
