The line graph illustrates the proportion of university students aged from 18 to 25 years old in 4 distinct regions from 1961 to 2011.
Overall, it is discernible that there was an increase in the number of university attendees in all countries examined, albeit to different extents. Notably, despite some fluctuations, Singapore was still the country with the highest percentage of students following tertiary education during the surveyed time frame.
Regarding countries that had the higher percentage of university participants, Singapore exhibited the largest proportion with nearly 25% at first, followed by a slight decrease to 20% until 1991. However, from this year onward, this figure recovered and grew to a higher point of 43%, maintaining its leading position in general. Starting with a lower point of 15%, the figure for Thailand soared to 36% from 1961 to 1991, then it kept increasing but to a lesser extent, registered 40% at the end of the period.
As for the remaining countries, the percentage of Philippines university pupils rose steadily from 7% to just shy of 20% throughout the period. Meanwhile, Malaysia’s figure experienced a moderate growth to 15% over a span of 30 years from 1961, yet it remained unchanged until 2011.
