The graph illustrates a percentage of children aged under 20 years by age group in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 2001.
Overall, the age group has changed significantly in 11 years. By 2001, the newborn group had the lowest rate, and the 10-14 year old group had the highest rate.
Firstly, the age group from 0-4 years old, the rate of this age group was nearly 26% in 1990, increased slightly and then decreased sharply over the years until 2001, when the rate was approximately 24%. Secondly, the 15-19 age group had the highest rate in 1990 at over 26%, then decreased sharply in 1994 and increased slightly again to nearly 25% in 2001. Finally, the two age groups 5-9 were nearly 25% and 10-14 were over 23% in 1990. Both have increased slightly over the years. However, by 1997, the 5-9 age group decreased to over 25% in 2001, while the 10-14 age group continued to increase to more than 26%. The graph shows us that the birth rate in the United Kingdom decreased and the age group of teens rose.
