It’s clear that there were upward trends in the proportions of reading, hiking, and surfing the Internet, whereas the datas for theatre and playing sport showed the contrasting movement. In addition, the percentage of elderly people in the United states spent their time for hiking was the highest over the given period.
In 1990s, there were slightly increase of 5% in the percentages of playing sport and surfing the the internet activities. The proportion of hiking activity rose up dramatically 20%, while this of theatre decreased remarkably in 1990s, at 40% and 30%, respectively. There was a slowly rise of 40% in the percentage of reading activity in 1990s.
From 2000s to 2010s, the percentages of three activities theatre, hiking and surfing the Internet increased significantly, at 45%, 80%, and 50%, respectively. Meanwhile the proportion of reading activities fluctuated from 20% in 2000s to 60% in 2010s. Furthermore, the data of playing sport activity remained stable, at 65% in 2010s.
