The line graph given illustrates changes in technology adoption across the UK between 2000 and 2015.
Initially in 2000, only two categories, internet and broadband, were tracked, reflecting limited digital engagement. The popularity was rather low as well, as only 30% of UK population adopt Internet, not mentioning the 5% usage rate broadband experienced.
However, by 2015, six distinct technologies were in use. Internet usage dominated, soaring to 90%, while broadband, social media, and smartphone also saw substantial growth, reaching 80%, 75%, and 69%, respectively. In contrast, smartwatches emerged much later, starting in 2010 at just 1% usage. Despite a gradual rise to 5% by 2015, they remained the least adopted technology.
In general, the 15 years between 2000 and 2015 witnessed a dramatic expansion in both technology diversity and accessibility. This is especially true of new portable devices and internet-related services. For example, the smartphone possession rate surged 54 percentage points in only 5 years, while social media achieved a leap of 78 percentage points within 10 years, both surpassing broadband in 2015.
