The line graph compares the normal amounts of salary (yen) paid to Japanese employees, and the costs of black and white TV, and colored TV between 1953 and 1973 with five year intevals. Overall, prices in both televisions fell consistently, while opposite trend was being observed for the monthly salary.
To begin with the declines, black and white TV was the most highest, which was 100yens in the first five years. When colored TV was introduced in 1958 with 180yens which was the peak for this chart, black and white TV has already been experiencing downward trends and continued to fall till the end of this period. In the end it became the lowest (roughly 35yens). However, from 1958 onwards colored television also started to fall. In the next five years it decreased sharply, but in the next decade the decline was relatively slow and by 1973 it had almost halved.
In contrast, monthly salary climbed from about 30yens in 1953 and took the lead from around 1968 onwards. Notably, tge increases in monthly salary corresponded with the declines in both black and white and colored televisions, and by 1973 average monthly salary had reached parity with the peak of colored TV.
