This bar chart illustrates how may children, according to their gender, played 6 sports (tennis, badminton, cycling, swimming, football and hockey) in an English town in 2012.
Overall, the male gender seemed to be more actively participating in sports. The maximum number of boys played football, closely followed by tennis, in comparison to the girls, where majority of them preferred swimming.
In terms of numbers, football showed the greatest number of male players (exactly 60), and tennis held the second rank at exactly 50 players. Conversely, among the females, swimming was the most popular, with 50 girls undertaking swimming, followed by badminton which recorded 40 players. Football showed the highest disparity in the genders, with considerably lower number of girls playing the sport.
The least common sport among both the genders was hockey. Badminton was also quite uncommon among males, with only 30 players among the population, whereas there were 40 female players. Cycling on the other hand, received more interest from the boys compared to the girls.
