The line graph illustrates the proportion of visitors to four different types of destinations in Scotland over three decades, starting from 1980.
Overall, while the percentage of travelers to Scotland who visited castles and zoos increased moderately, the opposite was true for aquariums and festivals over the period. It is also noticeable that castle was the most popular tourist attraction in Scotland in most years.
In 1980, the rate for castles tourists in Scotland was approximately 25%, which was much higher than the figure for zoos, at only 10%. Over the next three decades, the proportion of Scotland visitors to castles reached a peak of roughly 45% before falling to about 35% in 2010. During the same period, the figure for zoos witnessed a gradual fluctuation until 2000, then rising to above 20% in the final year.
Looking at other attractions, it can be clearly seen that festivals was the most favorited place by visitors to Scotland in 1980, in comparison with 20% people visiting aquariums. Over the next five years, the percentage of visitors to aquariums in Scotland peaked at 35% before significantly declining back to 20% in 1985. Since then, the figure continued dropping to about 10%, hitting the lowest point of the graph. Meanwhile, a gradual fall of 10% was recorded in the travelers to Scotland visiting festivals, from 30% to about 20%.
