During the first two decades, the percentage rose dramatically and reached its peak of 20 percent in 1980. Afterwards, it started to fall sharply in the following ten years and then had to tendency of decreasing slightly until it dropped to the lowest point approximately 5 percent in the year around 1997.
After achieving the bottom point, it fluctuated modestly for two to three years. Then, between 2000 and 2010, it gradually increased; moreover, since 2010, it has remained steady around 10 percent. Overall, the percentage soared in the beginning stage, declining to the lowest and has gone up again eventually.
In summary, there was an sharp increase of UK youngsters following vegetarian diet during 1960 to 1980; however, from 1980 to 1997 the percentage came down reversely. It began to grow and has levelled off stable in recent years.
