The line chart provides the proportion of individuals according for age groups who went to the cinema at least once per month in a country in a period of around three decades from 1978 to 2008.
Overall, the age range of 14 to 24 was the most popular age group to visit the cinema throughout this period. Moreover, the percentage of visitors from 35 to 49 and over 50 slightly increased while the opposite was true for the other age groups.
In 1978, about 92% of people aged from 14 to 24 spent time at cinema at least once per month. Subsequently, this rate saw a steady decline at about 87% in 1988. The next ten years recorded the figure rise again to reach 90% in 1998, from then it gradually decreased. A similar pattern was witnessed in the proportion of visitors aged 25-34, which started at nearly 80% in 1978. It then fell continuously to hit its lowest point at 60% in 1988 and next recovered to under 80% by the end of the period.
Conversely, the percentage of moviegoers in the ages of 35-49 who visited the cinema at least once a month recorded a relative fall by 10% in 1988 compared to that of in 1978, prior to climbing again to reach 70% ten years later. The ratio of the over 50s decreased from around 40% to about 30% from 1978 to 1988, followed by a substantial growth to end at over 50%.
