The chart illustrates trends of four distinct goods transport methods in the UK over a span of 28 years from 1974 to 2002.
Generally, it could be obviously witnessed that road transport remains the most frequently used mode while pipeline consistently serves as the least popular method. Only rail transport experienced flunctuations, despite that the other three modes show a mirrored upward trajectory over time.
Upon further examinations of the data, road transport has gradually risen from 70 million tonnes to approximately 100 million tonnes. As for water transport, it plateaued around 55 million tonnes during a period from 1980 to 1998, but witnessed a dramatic rise to 65 million tonnes in the last four years.↳
Moreover, it is also palpable and noteworthy that in 1994, rail transport plummeted to 25 million tonnes at its nadir, but it reached the same level in 2002 as in 1974. In terms of pipeline transport, there was a permanent tenfold ascent throughtout the period.↳
