The line graph below illustrates information about the participation rates in different activities in a UK sports club during the period from 1983 to 2003.
Overalll, it is obvious that there were two upward trends in participation of both gym activities and team sports, whereas another interesting point is that the trend in popularity of swimming is just opposite.
Looking at the details, as regards gym activities the percentage of participants was growing steadily and reached its peak (25%) in 2000, which was followed by a slight decline to 22% in 2003. If we look at team sports, it’s participation rates were growing gradually from 35% in 1983 to 40% in 1996. Subsequently, there was a significant fall to 32% in 2003.
By contrast, as for swimming, the situation is just opposite. The amount of participants went down steadily from 50% in 1983 to 15% in 1998 and remained stable during next 5 years.
