The line graph illustrates the percentages for participation in three different activities, which are swimming, team sports and gym activities, in a UK sports club from 1995 to 2015.
Overall, there are three different trends shown in the graph. While the popularity of swimming witnessed a downward trend, the rate of members participating in gym activities rose significantly. The figure of team sports changed the least through the years, and the activity ended up being the most participated one.
The percentage of swimming’s participants started at the highest data point in the chart, accounting for 50% of club members. The figure then declined dramatically in the next 15 years and reached its lowest point of 15% in 2010, then remained unchanged until 2015, being the least popular at the end of the period. By contrast, the proportion of members joining gym activities was the lowest in 1995, about 5%. But then the category witnessed a three-fold increase and the figure peaked at nearly 30% in 2010. Then in 2015, that percentage fell negligibly (to approximately 25%), and became the second-most popular activity at the end of the period.
In 1995, began with over 30%, the figure for team sports’ joiners was stable until 2000. In the next 10 years from 2000, the percentage of participants of team sport rose gradually and hit its top ( at 40% ) in 2010. But then this category decreased rapidly to 30% in 2015; however, it was still the most popular activities in the end.
