The graphs provided illustrate UK citizenship given in 1962-2002 and origins of new citizens in 1996 and 2002.
Overall, it is seen that both the number of citizenships given and the number of citizens increased over the period.
On the first graph, the number of UK citizenships given was risen gradually from initial 20 thousand to 30 thousand and then was fallen the same way to approximately 37 thousand from 1962 to 1975. It then had a dramatic upward trend to 65,000 in 1985 and had recovered to 48,000 in 1995. In 2000, it plummet and skyrocketed to 100,000 and then slowly increased to 120,000 in 2002.
On the second graph, we can see that the number of new citizens in 1996 was much less than it was in 2002. There was only 19,000 asians in 1996, whereas in 2002 this number doubled to 50,000. In contrast, there were 5,000 australasians and others, but this number decreased to only 4,000 in 2002. Both europeans and americans and africans had 9,000 in 1996. But in 2002, europeans and americans’ number tripled to 27,000, meanwhile africans’ number inclined to 39,000.
