The graphs elaborate on the numbers and percentage of children and youths population in Australia from the year 1958 to present time, with projective information until 2038.
As it can be clearly observed, the population of younger people in Australia has been on a gradual rise yet their representation amongst the general Australian population keeps sinking. Furthermore, in millions, the size of teens and young adults between the age 15 to 24 is far below those of the newborns. Such a trend seemed to have been since 1958, and predicted to continue to reflect the future.
Overall representation of Australian newborns and juveniles comprised almost a third of the whole Australian people in the end of 1950s, however their percentage has been deteriorating since then. On the other hand, the percentage of youth between the age of 15 to 24 has seen a slight increase from 13% to over 17% of Australian population between the 1960s and 1970s. However, since 1974, their percentage has seemed to be following a downhill trend and projected to be back to solely under 15% by the end of 2038.
Although the representativeness of youngsters in the Australian population has been declining, the actual numbers of such demographics has been on the rise since the 1960s. In 1958, the number of toddlers and young adults sat at 3 million and 1.3 million respectively. Such an amount has been increasing on a steady rise since then, and is projected to reach 5 million lives for younger children and 3 million for older youngsters by the end of 2040s.
