The pie charts illustrate the age of British people who paid a visit to Spain between 1983 and 2003. Overall, there was a shift in all age groups who travelled to Spain, with the exception of people aged between 34 and 54. However, people aged 34-45 years exhibited the largest share in both years, leaving the other age groups behind by a significant margin.
In 1983, the proportion of British people between 34 and 54 accounted for almost half of all tourists who visited Spain. This was followed by those aged 25-34, comprising 20%. While the share of older people constituted 16%, the figure for teenagers stood at 10%, making those in the 16-24 age group the least represented, at 4%.
In 2003, people in the 34 to 54 age group still topped the list, at 35%, although experiencing a considerable fall. Elderly people and adults came second and third, with respective figures of 26% and 15%. Lastly, the proportion of the younger group mirrored the pattern of people between 25 and 34, at 12%.
