The give graph illustrates the details of the changes in buying habits in the locals of the United Kingdom between the years 1971 and 2001.

As an overview, it is evident from the chart that Cars contributed the most in purchases in the year 2001, accounting for almost half of the expenditure, whereas more money was spent on food in the year 1971.

To begin with, in the year 1971, food products were where most of the money was spent. Whereas cars were the second most bought item, at just under a quarter. However, the least bought items were computers at 2 percent.

In contrast, cars were the most bought items later in 2001 at just over forty percent. Most of the rest of the money went equally towards food and restaurants. While books were where the least money went towards.

In short, people in the United Kingdom in the year 1971 spent more on foods and cars. While in 2001, well over half of the purchases went towards cars, food, and restaurants.
