Overall, three ways of transportation goods became more demanding (Road, Water, Pipeline), and Rail became stayed the same. While Road consistently remained the most popular way, Rail was overtaken by Water, which became the second most popular.
The ways that increased in use are Road, Water and Pipeline. Road was the most demanding and practical throughout the period. From 1974 to 1986, its use hovered between 70 and 68, jumped up in 1990 and remained till 1994 at 79, before increasing to over 90 million tonnnes, over the peroid 1998 to 2002. Water, which started as the third most popular way at 39 milllion tonnes, went up in 1982, meaning that Water overtook Rail as the second most popular, however leveled out untill 1994, and sharply dipped in 1998, after was a decade of consistent increase. Finally, Pipeline was climbing untill 1982 and stayed the same with the slight drop in 1994. The use of Rail did not change despite on ups and downs during the period from 1978 to 1998.
