This diagram illustrates correlation between using margarine, low fat and butter in grams for 20 years from 1986 to 2007.
Butter using peaked in 1986 and showed usage of 160 grams, while margarine usage was twice lower. Both graphs crossed in 1991 with 100 grams each, then margarine usage showed a plateau for next five years. Butter usage decreased slightly from 1991 to 2007, showed approximately 50 grams, hovewer margarine usage also decreased slowly to 40 grams in 2007. Graphs crossed again in 2005 with about 55 grams.
Low fat and reduced spreads increased significantly from 1996 to 2001, peaked at 80 grams, then also decreased slightly to 70 grams in 2007.
