Overall, a consistent upward trend is evident in China. Nevertheless, there were also two places that witnessed a slight decrease: the United States and the European Union.
The most dramatic rise occurred in China, where figures significantly climbed from 2.5 tonnes in 1990 to 11.0 tonnes in 2025. It is evident that the most rapid increase was in the first half of the given period. Furthermore, the country that registered the modest growth rate is India (from 0 to 3.5 tonnes respectively).
The downward trend is evident across the United States and the European Union. In the United States, the numbers steadily grew from 5.0 to 6.0 tonnes until the end of the first half of the diagram. Following this, they substantially plummeted to 4.5 tonnes in 2025. In contrast, in the European Union the growth’s duration was much shorter than in the previous country (from 4.0 to 4.5 tonnes in approximately 5 years). Afterwards, the figures of carbon emissions experienced a sharp decrease from 4.5 to 3.0 in 2025.
