Overall, instances of armed robbery rapidly declined, whereas, assault increased moderately. Murder was relatively constant throughout the entire time frame. Although armed robbery witnessed the sharpest decline, it had the highest occurrence than any other crimes through out most of the time period.
Now turning to details, the rate of armed robbery commenced at just under 3500, this briefly incremented to around 3700 before a dramatic plunge to slightly over 1000 in 2008. Within the next year, armed robbery slightly increased to 1500 and it remained constant for the next 3 years. In stark contrast, assault experienced an increase in occurrence. It initiated at around 2300 before diminishing to 2000 within the next 3 years. By the middle of 2006, assaults’ surpassed armed robbery. After 2008, the rate of assaults soared to roughly 2700 at the end of the time frame.
On the other hand, instances of murder did not experience a significant increase or decrease, it remained relatively stable. In 2003, there were 500 instances of murder which doubled within 2005 before dwindling to 500 within 2008. After 2008, murder saw a brief increase to about 600 in 2010 before declining to just over 500, its initial rate in 2012.
