The number of houses built in the South dropped significantly between 2006 and 2012. The region achieved its highest construction number in 2006, with 900,000 houses built. There was a considerable drop in 2008 as the number of buildings constructed significantly decreased to 450,000. The lowest point was reached in 2010 with 300,000 houses built. Then, the number increased slightly until 2012, when there were about 350,000 single-family homes constructed.
Similarly the number of houses in other regions was falling in the same period.The highest number of buildings constructed was in 2006, with 450,000 in the West, around 300,000 in the Midwest, and slightly below 200,000 in the Northeast. Then, in 2008 there was a considerable drop in the West, with a number of 200,000 houses and a smaller drop in the Midwest and Northeast with about 150,000 and a little over 100,000 accordingly. The lowest construction number was achieved in 2010, with about 100,000 houses built in each region. In 2012, different trends emerged: the Northeast continued to fall to 50,000, the Midwest remained the same at 100,000, and the West increased slightly to 150,000.
