The line graph illustrates the amount of oil produced and consumed daily in China from 1982 to 2006, measured in millions of barrels day.
Overall, it can be seen that both oil production and consumption increased during the period. However, oil consumption rose more sharply and eventually exceeded oil production after the early 1990s. China experienced a steady rise in oil production, but the growth in oil consumption was much faster.
In 1982, the production and consumption of oil in China were quite similar, at around 2 million barrels per day. Between 1982 and 1990, production increased steadily to approximately 2.7 million barrels, while consumption grew at a slower rate and stayed below production.
From 1994 to 2006, both figures continued to rise and became equal at around 3 million barrels per day. After that point, consumption increased significantly, reaching about 6.2 million barrels by 2006. In contrast, production grew at a much slower pace and reached only around 3.5 million barrels per day by the end of the period.
